Interview
Dr. Vijay Bhatkar : India is a country where the majority of the population comprises of youngsters like you. More than 50% of the population lies in the age group of 15 to 50 years. The advice for the young generation is that do anything wholeheartedly. Whatever work you do, whichever field you choose in life always try to give your hundred percent in it. Don't let failures bog you down. Keep your eyes and ears open to the happenings around you. Develop a habit to read. Reading, for example, autobiographies, inspirational literature and even newspapers. Become an all rounder, remain focused and the most important thing put your nation above everything else.
Dr. Vijay Bhatkar : Yes, it is true that I completed my bachelor's in engineering at the age of 18. In my childhood, I was interested in doing whatever my elder brother used to do. So, when my brother started studying in 4th standard I also decided to learn along with him. I used to repeatedly ask my father to allow me to study with my brother. Finally I somehow convinced him. As my father was a well known figure in my village I was allowed to complete my schooling with my brother. My academic performances satisfied my teachers. When I started pursuing my bachelor's in engineering, the Indo-Chinese war broke out. That was in the year 1962. A sudden demand for engineers was felt in those days. So we had to complete our bachelor's in 3 years instead of 4. This is how I completed my graduation in engineering.
Dr. Vijay Bhatkar : That is a good question. When I was studying in IIT Delhi, I was fascinated by the world of mathematics. So I started teaching mathematics to the students. In those days, the then prime minister, Rajiv Gandhi, initiated the revolutionary movement for developing the field of Computers and Information Technology. I was selected as a scientist for this mission by the then minister of Science and Technology, K R Narayanan. I felt I had an opportunity to serve my motherland and help her future generations in every possible way I could. Also, the fact that my parents too were a part of the freedom struggle inspired me to stay back in India. Indian joined the movement as a scientist and was appointed the secretary of the same committee. The journey from core sciences to philosophy then to abstract mathematics and finally back to core sciences had been challenging one.
Dr. Vijay Bhatkar : The PARAM and C-DAC are two different things. During my early days of research work, the invention of microprocessor from Intel had just come up. It was that time I was feeling that the invention of microprocessor will change everything. When I was doing research work in my laboratories I thought to develop a Super Computer which would be a powerful computer to help India in various fields. The technology used for Super Computer was parallel processing which helped in making the PARAM a Super Computer.
Dr. Vijay Bhatkar : There is lots of scope for research. In terms of facilities you have the internet which makes all the information available to you within moments. In our times, internet wasn’t there. The youth of today has large access to internet. But let me remind you Google and Facebook are not outcome of any research. If you want to do something innovative and new, you can do it on your laptop too. PicsVideo - Mantra Of Success |
